In the first half, it was about jobs and responsibilities that were directly related to accounting and finance (accountant, head of accounting, financial director). In the second half, taking responsibilities for the overall management of companies and consulting, on the basis of management decisions, development and implementation of strategies and operational plans, I continued intensively to use the acquired knowledge in the field of financial management. On the contrary, in order to be able to perform increasingly complex management and consulting tasks, I continuously acquired new knowledge and skills in this area, adapted them, and introduced them in accordance with the needs and circumstances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Has accounting and finance changed a lot since you started that business?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As with everything else in life and at work, the only thing that is constant is change. And this also applies to the field of accounting and financial management, which includes financial controlling. In the period up to the end of the &#8217;80s, it was about bookkeeping, reactive proper recording of business transactions in accordance with the principles of double-entry bookkeeping, and relevant laws and standards. Subsequently, by the end of the 1990s, bookkeeping was transformed into partially pro-active management accounting, within which analytical techniques and tools were developed to process data from bookkeeping records. Today, finance and accounting, through complex analytical procedures of collected, recorded, and well-read large amounts of data and information from the past and present, intensively cooperating with other business functions, and understanding the view from their perspectives, participate in jointly creating &#8220;future views&#8221;.<\/p><p><strong>Do you think everyone needs to have a basic knowledge of finance in order to function in the business world?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Organizations that have ambitions to be excellent, nurture and develop it to higher levels, and all in order to maintain the security and stability of business, must ensure that key personnel, regardless of their business area, what is their formal education, and in what they possess certain specialist knowledge and experience, adopt and apply knowledge in the field of business economics. Without it, without understanding the economic benefits and harms that result from their work and decisions at all levels (workplace, organizational unit, enterprise) they are not able to make qualified, fact-based decisions. And so the risks of failure grew progressively.<\/p><p><strong>How did you start with being a lecturer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>About 15 years ago, as a high-ranking manager in a company that operated in Croatia as a member of an international group, during the annual interview I expressed my desire to be provided with additional specialist training at one of the established international business schools. The answer was quick, concrete, and direct: given my age, I have already entered the category of managers in which the corporation no longer invests in such a form of education. And as an alternative, we found a solution in two weeks of extra vacation that I could use for the purpose of developing or working on some of my own business projects. So I started with education, believing that in conducting workshops, seminars, and similar forms of education, exchanging knowledge and experiences with various participants, I can develop and strengthen my own competencies, both in the areas, I lectured on (financial strategic management) and in the field of communication, public speaking, and human resources management. And I was not mistaken, each of the more than 300 workshops held so far, brought me the opportunity to renew existing knowledge and skills, to hear and learn something new, different. And after that, I had no choice but to put it into practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How much has the pandemic affected you in terms of switching to online training? Does that suit you more than when the\u00a0training programs\u00a0were live?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am a member of the &#8220;older&#8221; generation, which relied heavily on social, physical, contact when doing business. When it was necessary to resolve a misunderstanding, develop a relationship with a partner, gather important information, explain an offer, close a deal, etc., the best solution was &#8220;face to face, live&#8221;. There were signals that came from the movements, position, dynamics of speech, there was a sense of security that certain messages will be better transmitted and understood by the other side. All this also applies to live education in relation to webinars and similar online education. But the fact is that times have changed, that younger generations have and impose other habits, that new communication channels and tools have made it possible to optimize the spending of time and resources. And accordingly, and the corona crisis that significantly limited social contacts, online training has taken a leading role in business education. The corona crisis will pass, but it is certain that online education will still retain a high share compared to other forms of education.<\/p>\n<p>As lecturers, this forced us to further educate ourselves in the use of online communication tools, to adapt the content and ways of their interpretation. And we can accept that as something good, as a benefit that came from the need to change the model of work. From conversations with colleagues involved in business education, it is not difficult to see that they estimate that live workshops are still a better way for them to transfer knowledge and skills, to conduct exercises and dialogue. But there is no going back, and it is up to all of us to continue to develop our knowledge and skills and the way and model of working in online conditions<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How long have you been in the field of finance?
